What is the difference between Jewel of the Seas Ocean View and Spacious Ocean View? ›

Balcony: Balcony rooms on Jewel of the Seas fall into two categories: Ocean View Balcony cabins are smaller, with 179 square feet of interior space and balconies measuring between 27 and 47 square feet. Spacious Ocean View cabins are larger, at 204 square feet, with balconies measuring between 41 and 172 square feet.

This is a big ship, so there are many options to find the best cabin for you. (If you're wondering just how big Jewel of the Seas is, the answer is 962 feet long – about 3 soccer fields long.)

Introduced in 2004, Jewel of the Seas carries up to 2,702 passengers and 852 crew members. It received its last major refurbishment in 2016, followed by a dry dock addressing technical matters in 2021.

Oceanview cabins can have either a rectangular window or a round porthole, which typically do not open. Most balcony cabins have floor-to-ceiling glass doors so you can still see outside even if the weather isn't good. Because balcony cabins have this additional outside space, they cost more money.

While oceanview rooms tend to offer a partial view of the ocean, oceanfront rooms have a more direct view and are often located in short distance from the water, so you can hear the ocean when opening the window. An oceanfront room is per definition oceanview, but an oceanview room is not necessarily oceanfront.

“Ocean view” means that there is a window, and if you look out of that window, you can see the ocean. A balcony room means that there is a sliding glass door, and you can step outside onto your little balcony and see, hear, and smell the ocean and the sea breezes.
