Mike Horn, a four-time GLIAC Coach of the Year (2003-04, 2006-07, 2009-10, 2012-13) and a three-timeGCAA Division II Regional Coach of the Year (2006-07, 2008-09 and 2019-20), concludedhis 23rdseason as Wayne State University's golf coach in the spring of 2024.

He has led the Warriors to the NCAA Super Regional in 16 of the last 20years, including eight straight at one point (2007-14).

In total, Horn's players have collected 59 All-GLIAC awards and 14 All-Region honors. Ryan Johnson (2007-Second Team), Joe Juszczyk (2008-Honorable Mention & 2010-Second Team), Steve Cuzzort (2009-First Team), and Brendan Seys (2020-Second Team) each earned All-America status.

Ryan Johnson was a two-time GLIAC Men's Golf Athlete of the Year (2004-05 and 2006-07) as well as the 2004 league champion, while Cuzzort was the 2008-09 GLIAC Men's Golfer of the Year and the 2008 GLIAC Medalist. Eric Johnson was the 2012-13 GLIAC Men's Golf Athlete of the Year with Seys earning the 2019-20 GLIAC Golfer of the Year award.

In addition, Horn has mentored four GLIAC Freshman of the Year recipients in Ryan Johnson (2003-04), Alex LaSerra (2012-13), Jordan Andrus (2013-14) and Brendan Seys (2016-17).

The Warriors advanced to the NCAA Super Regionals for the sixh time in the last sevenseasons the tournament was held (not counting 2020 due to COVID) in 2024 after finishing second in the stroke play portion of the GLIAC Championships.

Wayne State qualified for the NCAA Super Regionals in 2022 and was led by five All-GLIAC performers including All-Region selection Sean Niles. Joining Niles on the All-GLIAC First Team was Garret Day, while Josh DiCarlo, Mat Hawryluk and Matt Pelak each received Second Team All-GLIAC recognition.

Hornguided Grant Haefner to the NCAA Super Regional in 2020-21 as an individual and a First Team All-GLIAC selection. Sean Nilesand MattPelak collected All-GLIAC Second Team accolades.

In the coronavirus shortened year of 2019-20, five of his golfers earned All-GLIAC honors, including three on the First Team (Brendan Seys, Grant Haefner and Nicholas Winiarski), with Haefner also being a recipient of a GLIAC Commissioner's Award for academic and athletic excellence.

During the 2018-19 season, WSU qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the third consecutive season. Horn guided Brendan Seys to First Team All-GLIAC and GCAA/PING All-Region accolades. In addition, Austin Alexander earned Second Team honors, while Nikolas Senkowski and Grant Haefner were named to the Honorable Mention squad. The Warriors tied-for-third at the GLIAC Championships, falling to Ashland during the head-to-head round on the third and final day.

In 2017-18, Horn led WSU to one of its best seasons in the last 20 years as the Warriors won five events and qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the second straight season as the fourth seed from the Midwest Region. He helped lead Brendan Seys to First Team All-GLIAC and PING All-Midwest Region accolades, while Kyle Rybicki and Grant Haefner both collected Second Team All-GLIAC recognition.

In 2016-17, he guided the Warriors back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2014. He coached Seys to GLIAC Freshman of the Year and Second Team All-GLIAC honors. In addition, redshirt senior Jordan Andrus collected Second Team accolades. WSU finished 40th in the final DII GCAA Coaches Poll.

In 2015-16, he helped Crawford McKinlay to a Second Team All-GLIAC selection. WSU won the Motor City Invitational (Oct. 18-19, 2015) with a 623 (308, 315), and tied-for-fourth at the fourth Midwest Regional with a 607 (310, 297).

He helped Jordan Andrus to an Honorable Mention All-GLIAC selection during the 2014-15 academic year. The team tied for first at the LTU Invitational (Sept.22) and won the Motor City Invitational (Oct. 4-5). The Warriors finished second at the GLIAC North Invitational (Sept. 20-21), fifth at the SVSU Fall Invitational (Sept. 13-14) and fifth at the GLIAC Championships (Oct. 10-12).

In 2013-14, Horn helped guide Jordan Andrus to GLIAC Freshman of the Year and Honorable Mention All-GLIAC honors, while TylerLaSerra was a Second Team All-GLIAC selection and Alex LaSerra was named to the league's Honorable Mention team. Coach Horn led the squad to three team titles including the LSSU Invitational and BGSU John Piper Intercollegiate in the fall and a Midwest Regional title to end the regular season in Noblesville, Ind.

In 2013, Horn tutored senior Eric Johnson to GLIAC Golfer of the Year honors. Johnson was inducted into the WSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2019. Newcomer Tyler LaSerra earned GLIAC Freshman of the Year accolades.

Horn guided the2010-11 squadto a second-place finishat the GLIAC Championship and seventh place inthe NCAA Super Regional. Eric Johnson went on to represent WSU at the NCAA Championship as an individual.

Wayne State qualified for the NCAA Championship for the first time in program history as a team in 2009 after winning the Super Regional title. The Warriors finished in a tie-for-13th at nationals, while senior Steve Cuzzort - the 2008 GLIAC Champion and 2009 Super Regional medalist - placed in a tie-for-fifth individually. The squad returned to the NCAA Championship the following season (2009-10) and finished 14th after a runner-up finish at the Super Regional. The 2009-10 squad was led by First Team All-GLIAC selection Joe Juszczyk, along with Second Team honorees Eric Johnson and Aaron Peterson. Jack Mitroka earned Honorable Mention All-GLIAC recognition.

The 2007-08 season saw four golfers earn All-GLIAC recognition (Ryan Johson-First Team, Brett Hudson-Second Team, Bryan Lynch and Joe Juszczyk-Honorable Mention) and two garner PING/GCAA All-Region honors. In addition, Super Regional medalist Joe Juszczyk became the first WSU golfer to qualify for nationals since Horn in 1986.

Ryan Johnson was a four-time First Team All-GLIAC selection (2003-04, 2004-05, 2006-07 and 2007-08), the first under coach Horn, along with Joe Wilson in 2005-06. The first All-GLIAC honoree mentored by Horn was Jacob Abramson, who received Second Team All-GLIAC recognition in both 2002-03 and 2003-04.

During the 2003-04 campaign, Horn led the Warriors to a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Super Regional, the school's first team appearance in the NCAA's, and the program's first conference title since 1947 (Mid-American Conference). The following season, he guided the squad to what was its best finish at the Super Regional in school history until 2009.

Horn is no stranger to WSU. He attended the University for five years and was a two-time All-GLIAC selection on the golf team. He was named to the Division II District IV All-American squad in 1986 and participated in the NCAA Division II championship tournament. The 1985 GLIAC Champion, Horn was a six-time medalist during his collegiate career.

Horn received his bachelor's degree from Wayne State in Marketing/Business Management in 1986. A 2001 inductee into the Wayne State University Athletic Hall of Fame, he served as co-captain as a sophom*ore, and captain his junior and senior seasons. In 1986, Horn earned GLIAC Scholar-Athlete accolades.

A Dearborn Heights native, he worked for Dynamic Cleaning Supplies as a Divisional Manager prior to coming to Wayne State. He was a regional manager for Blockbuster Video from 1991-97. Horn is still an avid golfer himself and has been club champion at Harbor Club Golf Course in Belleville, Mich., and Hilltop Golf Club in Plymouth, Mich., six times in the past 20 years.

Horn has been a member of Publinx, an amateur golf association, for over 25 years. He graduated from Divine Child High School and was a member of the golf team for three years. Horn currently resides in Allen Park with his wife, Kimberlei. Horn's son, Dillon was a four-year member of the Wayne State golf team. "My family is so supportive. Thanks to Kimberlei and Dillon for allowing me to work at what I love." Mike is also a proud grandpa to Theodore Michael who was born April 17, 2024.
